The Trophy
‘SSA Annual Exhibition’, 2010
Society of Scottish Artists, Edinburgh
The bronze sculpture The Trophy is a cast of tree bark and branches in the shape of a set of fallow deer antlers. It is installed in a bed of fallen leaves from the woodland as a reminder of the deer’s habitat. The form of the traditional trophy-display antlers combined with the natural woodland materials recall the tension between the material motivations for stalking – hunting for trophies – and environmental ones – culling.
