Pendulum

Exhibition, 2015

Macroberts Art Centre, Stirling

The red kite (Milvus milvus) was extinct in Scotland until it was re-introduced in 1989. However, its population growth has been held back by continued poisoning – intentionally or accidentally – from rodenticides. This is a problem in the Black Isle, in particular.

The suspended aluminium sculpture Pendulum expresses the anxiety and uncertainty of the recovery of the species in Scotland. The bird pendulum has stopped swinging, waiting to be to set into motion again. The work invites interaction from viewers.
