The title Per Ardua is from the Latin, 'Per Ardua Ad Astra', meaning reaching for the stars; striving for higher things and beyond through adversity. The bronze sculpture is the result of observations of the graceful and rhythmic movement of salmon leaping at Buchanty Spout, River Almond, to spawn upstream.
